Life’ll Kill Ya is fine but there are absolutely better records between that and Excitable. That’s a terrible RS take. Check out The Envoy and Sentimental Hygiene to start.
My main takeaway when looking into things for these posts is just how often Rolling Stone get things wrong! Rob Sheffield is quickly becoming my least favourite music writer. Have put The Envoy on now, will have a listen to Sentimental Hygiene next (that's the one with Bob on, right? Love Boom Boom Mancini!)
That's the one! Then go to Mutineer for weird DIY Zevon (with still some absolutely killer songs, including the title track Bob also covered). Life'll Kill Ya is if anything in the bottom half of his albums.
