This is terrific writing, Matthew. I’m a big Courtney Barnett advocate, and this is/was her best record. I liked her thing with Kurt Vile, too. As to the Dylan visions of those songs: there’s no way heroic Bob is in Sinatra’s league on these standards. Come on, man: You must be putting me on.😎

Thanks, Wayne - I appreciate that. Yeah, she is great and so is that album with Kurt Vile. Love Over Everything from that one.

Haha, I'd have Frank and Bob in separate leagues on these songs but they're both top of their own tables. Of course, Mr Frank is in a league all of his own...

You know there is a story about Sinatra coming up to Dylan and sharing some wisdom at a Hollywood party. Dylan's recollection was something like "You and me pal, we got blue eyes, we're from up there," Sinatra said, pointing to the stars. "The other bums are from down here.' I remember thinking, he might be right."

great write up! I love Depreston. To me it's not just about trying to find a house, or recalling the lives of those that live in them, but also a larger narrative about where/how we live and why. Maybe I'm just overthinking it. I dunno.
