Haven't seen the movie but I did catch the traveling Broadway production a couple of years ago and I was very impressed with it. I share your disdain for musicals for the most part, even though there is a small sentimental part of me that has a soft spot for the likes of West Side Story and, yes, Jesus Christ Superstar.

Haha it seems that even the hardiest of us anti-musical folk usually have a couple that manage to make it through the defences!
‘Hair’ is another one - in fact, its soundtrack was a landmark album for me growing up.
Will have to give that one a listen - I trust your judgement!
